Robertson - wine region

Robertson is a town called about 2 hours drive west of Cape Town. The Robertson region is known for its great wine and lies on the beautiful Wine Route R62. Wine has been grown in this area since the early 1880's, which is perfectly suited for growing wine due to the climate.

History of the wine region

The town of Robertson was named in 1853 by the pastor William Robertson. The citizens discovered early on that the valley in which the town is located was perfect for growing wine. The first wineries were soon founded in this valley and the wines quickly became famous. Over the last few years the wines have been exported all over the world and this region has established itself as one of the most successful wine regions in South Africa.
