Tasting Note

The Haute Cabière Collection Amphora Chardonnay is a characterful single-block Chardonnay from Franschhoek. The vines were planted in 1983. Fermented and aged for 12 months in 450-litre clay amphorae, this wine displays a pure style, with a fine texture and clear fruit expression. Pale gold in the glass. The nose offers tropical fruit, with hints of pineapple and white peach, alongside fresh notes of lime and citrus, and a touch of pear, chamomile and wet stone. Juicy and precise on the palate. The palate is powerful yet elegant, supported by taut, well-integrated acidity. The fine tannins typical of amphora ageing provide grip and structure. Flavours of stone fruit, citrus zest and delicate herbal spice lead into a long, salty, mineral finish. Already very approachable, with potential to age in bottle for several years.
