Hidden Valley
The Winery Hidden Valley, located on the west slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, South Africa, was reoriented in 2012 by owner Dave Hidden . The winery focuses on sustainable viticulture methods and producing quality wines. The vineyards benefit from cool sea breezes and diverse soils, which provide ideal conditions.
These natural conditions enable the production of complex, expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir. In addition to the passion for winemaking, including grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Hidden Valley is also known for its olive oil production.
A special feature for quality assurance is the manual harvesting of the grapes. With its commitment to sustainability and quality, the winery has already made a name for itself in the sought-after wine region Stellenbosch .
The Hidden Valley Hidden Gems is an exceptionally complex Bordeaux-style red wine blend with a stunningly intense bouquet of black berries, dark plums and ripe blackberries, and a floral hint of thyme and fine pepper. On the palate, intense nuances of black fruit take the lead, accompanied by delicious notes of subtle oak spice, fragrant tobacco and delicate spices. A full-bodied wine with a smooth finish that lingers long and provides first-class enjoyment.
Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
