The Weingut Du Toitskloof was founded in 1962 by a group of winemakers and is a cooperative made up of various grape growers contributing their grapes for wine production. The cooperative promotes collaboration and the cultivation of quality wine grapes. The 18-hectare estate is located near the Du Toitskloof Pass in the western part of the Western Cape wine region in South Africa, just about an hour's drive from Cape Town.

Over the years, the winery has received numerous awards for the quality of its wines.

Tasting notes

Der Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2022 vom Winery Du Toitskloof is a strong, from Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz embossed Cuvée. With black berries and Minzearomen and a touch of white pepper on the tongue, the wine convinces above all Lover from intense fruit flavors.

This vintage matured six months in oak barrels.

Composition of this cuvée:

Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Shiraz (40%)

Cuvée Wein

Cuvées are among the most expensive wines in the world. Bordeaux wines from France and Premium Wines from the Rioja wine region in Spain also fall into the category of Cuvées. Additionally, some of the best Champagnes in the world are often Cuvée Champagnes, made from grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier.

In South Africa, excellent Cuvées are also produced, primarily due to the historical connection to the French wine world.

But what is a Cuvée exactly?

Fundamentally, Cuvée means the blending of wine from different grape varieties in a fermentation vessel. Also, blending grapes from different vineyard locations results in a wine being referred to as a Cuvée. There are generally two different times when different vineyards and grape varieties can be blended.

Some winemakers mix the grapes already during the pressing process. This results in the blended grapes fermenting together in the fermentation vessel. However, the more common practice is post-fermentation blending. Here, already fermented wines are blended together to mature together during aging.
