Wine guideLe Lude: The Art of South African Sparkling Wine
The Winery & Terroir
In the heart of Franschhoek, the famous "French Corner" of South Africa's Western Cape, lies the Le Lude estate. Here, they have dedicated themselves to a single passion: producing world-class Cap Classique. With its cool nights and ideal terroir, Franschhoek provides perfect conditions for the classic grape varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which form the basis of every Le Lude sparkling wine. The winery adheres to an uncompromising standard of quality, vinifying its wines exclusively according to the traditional bottle fermentation method, known in South Africa as Méthode Cap Classique (MCC).
Wine Ranges in Our Selection
Our Le Lude collection reflects the full spectrum of their expertise. The entry point is the excellent Brut and Brut Rosé Reserve, both non-vintage cuvées that impress with freshness and elegance. A step above are the vintage sparkling wines, the so-called Vintage Cuvées, which capture the unique characteristics of a specific year. The absolute pinnacle of the portfolio are the exclusive prestige cuvées like the "Agrafe" series. The name refers to the traditional agrafe clip used instead of a crown cap during the second fermentation – a sign of the highest craftsmanship. Wines like the Madame Brut Nature or the rare Venus Rosé Nature are expressions of pure finesse and complexity.
Food Pairing
A glass of Le Lude is the perfect start to a special evening. The wines are excellent as an aperitif but are also versatile food companions. Try the Brut Reserve with fresh oysters, sushi, or light appetisers. The more complex Vintage and Prestige Cuvées pair wonderfully with grilled fish, seafood, white meats like chicken or veal, or even dishes with truffle. A Rosé also goes beautifully with red berry desserts.
Price Range
Le Lude's sparkling wines are positioned in the premium segment, reflecting their high quality and the elaborate production process. Prices in our shop start from around €33.
