Idiom
Idiom has embodied the passion of the Bottega family for exquisite wines in the wine region Stellenbosch, South Africa. Picturesquely located on the upper slopes of the Helderberg, the Winery enjoys breathtaking views of False Bay and benefits from unique microclimates shaped by the nearby ocean and the surrounding mountains. The philosophy of Idiom is to make optimal use of the terroir and bring out the characteristics of each grape variety perfectly.
Under the leadership of cellarmaster Roberto Bottega an impressive range of grape varieties is cultivated. In addition to classic Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the portfolio also includes Pinotage and Shiraz . This diversity is reflected in experimental wines that are still strongly rooted in the terroir, which are regularly celebrated for their character and origin.
Idiom is synonymous with innovative winemaking, with every drop reflecting the dedication and expertise of the team of Roberto Bottega . The wines are a reflection of the highest winemaking craft and stand for South Africa's rich tradition of winegrowing.
The wine shows a delicate pink to coral-red hue in the glass. The nose is expressive and aromatic, revealing sweet pink floral notes underpinned by fresh strawberry. The palate is fresh and lively, supported by bright acidity and a pleasant mineral edge. Flavours of orange blossom and red raspberry unfold gracefully, leading to a clean, refreshing finish.
Winemaking: Harvested at optimal ripeness at 22° Balling, the grapes were pressed as whole bunches with minimal extraction, allowing approximately two hours of gentle skin contact to achieve the wine’s delicate colour and aromatic purity. Fermentation and maturation took place in stainless-steel tanks, where the wine remained on the fine lees for six months to preserve freshness while enhancing its texture and aromatic complexity.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
