Kanonkop
The Winery Kanonkop is considered one of the most renowned wineries in South Africa and is often referred to as the country’s "First Growth". It is particularly known for its outstanding Pinotage-wines as well as elegant blends in the Bordeaux style. The name Kanonkop is derived from a cannon on Simonsberg, which was once used to signal ships arriving in Table Bay.
The winery located in Stellenbosch has made a name for itself internationally and stands for wines of high quality and aging potential. Typical are harmonious cuvées made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
With a deep commitment to tradition and terroir-driven cultivation, Kanonkop produces wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their origin. Wine lovers value the consistency and unmistakable style that make Kanonkop it a staple in the wine world.

The Kadette Cape Blend from Winery Kanonkop flows into the glass with strong carmine red hues. With aromas of raspberries, dark cherries, plums, cinnamon, and cloves, the Kadette Cape Blend impresses on the nose.
Smooth, elegant tannins and a fresh acid edge are beautifully balanced with a lively fruit explosion on the palate. Juicy aromas of red and black fruits and a hint of Chocolate dominate the long finish.
The fermentation of the Kadette Cape Blend took place in open fermentation vessels. The juice was drawn off the skins after 3 to 5 days. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.

Pinotage, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
This cuvée combines dark fruit with spicy depth and supportive structure. Together, Pinotage and Merlot can contribute plum and cherry notes, as well as body and a rounded fruit impression. Cabernet Sauvignon often adds cassis, firmer tannin and backbone; Cabernet Franc can bring herbal notes, subtle spice and lively acidity for freshness. Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon contribute particularly to the usually deep ruby-red colour. How dense or smooth the ensemble seems depends on ripeness and ageing.
This combination is particularly fitting in South Africa, where Pinotage is deeply rooted; however, it does not indicate a specific origin or a uniform style. The spectrum ranges from fruit-forward and approachable to full-bodied and structured, with possible toasted and spice notes when aged in oak. It pairs well with seared meat, spicy vegetable dishes or mature cheese.
