The 'The Spotted Hound' Red Blend 2018 from the winery Old Road Wine Co. evokes the stories of legendary characters, the Franschhoek parish. The spotted dog was a witty little character. Whenever the butcher turned, the dog's quirky nature would take over and he would dig into the finest cuts.
This Red Blend 2018 shows a slight on the nose saltiness with a touch of soft cardamom spice. The palate becomes red with Berry, turkish honey and dried flower spices recorded in the aftertaste.
The 'The Spotted Hound' is in the north on the slopes of Helderbergs cultivated. The soils on which these vineyards grow consist mainly of weathered granite, which gives the fruit an excellent minerality gives.

Sangiovese, Shiraz, Petite Syrah, Grenache Noir, Cinsault & Malbec
This cuvée combines red and dark fruit with spice and supporting structure. Sangiovese can bring cherry fruit and lively acidity for freshness, while Grenache Noir and Cinsault contribute red berries and supple fruit. Grenache Noir also often brings warmth and body. Shiraz and Malbec add dark berries, plum and richness; Shiraz often contributes peppery notes. Petite Syrah primarily enhances colour and tannin and, together with the structural components of the other varieties, forms the framework.
These varieties have important growing regions in, among other places, Tuscany, southern France, South Africa, California and Argentina. However, this combination does not represent a classic regional cuvée. Depending on its origin and Aged, the style ranges from fruit-forward and approachable to powerful and spicy.
Ruby-red to deep, dark hues are possible in the glass. This combination pairs well with, for example, grilled meat, hearty vegetable dishes or mature cheese.
Ratings
