Te Kano
Te Kano Estate is a family-run Winery in Central Otago, New Zealand, founded by Rhonda and Keith Lloyd. The name Te Kano, which means “the stallion” in the Māori language, reflects the founders’ commitment to future generations. The Winery is dedicated to regenerating the land that has historically been shaped by gold mining.
The philosophy of the Winery Te Kano focuses on sustainability and on creating wines that reflect the region’s unique terroir. Te Kano cares for its vineyards and the surrounding nature. The focus is on the grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are grown in the different sites across the Winery, including Bannockburn and Northburn . Discover also the Pinot Noir from South Africa.
The Winery features an award-winning cellar architecture that blends seamlessly into the landscape and celebrates the rugged beauty of Central Otago. Visitors can enjoy the diverse range of wines in the cellar, set among the vineyards and overlooking the Kawarau River.

The Kin Pinot Noir 2023 from the Winery Te Kano is a expressive and multifaceted red wine that reflects the distinctive terroir of Central Otago.
In the nose, seductive aromas of ripe cherries, black currant, and plum unfold, complemented by subtle notes of dried herbs and a fine spiciness. On the palate, the wine reveals smooth tannins and a balanced structure, leading into a long and elegant finish.
The grapes come from various subregions of Central Otago, including Bannockburn, Waitaki, and Northburn. The individual batches were handpicked and fermented separately in open fermentation vessels before being gently matured.

Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, is one of the world's noblest and most demanding red wine grape varieties. It is characterised by its pale ruby-red to brick-red colour . The bouquet is complex, with aromas of red berries such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry, often complemented by spicy notes, earthy tones or nuances of undergrowth with age. The wines are generally elegant, medium-bodied wines but can also be powerful and profound.
Typical growing regions include French Burgundy, while Germany, Oregon, California and South Africa also produce outstanding Pinot Noirs. The style ranges from fruit-driven and fresh to complex and mature, often refined through ageing in barriques, which can impart notes of vanilla or roasted coffee.
Pinot Noir offers a fine balance of fruit and acidity and is a versatile food pairing wine. It pairs well with poultry, mushroom dishes, white meats and mild cheese.
