Winery Rickety Bridge
The Rickety Bridge Wine Estate, located in Franschhoek on the slopes of the Dassenberg, is known for its high-quality Franschhoek wines.
Under the leadership of Winemaker Wynand Grobler, the Winery has offered an exclusive wine selection since its establishment in 1797.
Originally part of the La Provence farm, it was only operated under the name Rickety Bridge in the 1990s. The Winery has made significant investments in modern winemaking techniques and has a renovated wine cellar, which now serves exclusively as storage for the wooden barrels used during fermentation. The flagship range "Paulina's Reserve," named after the former owner Paulina de Villiers, is internationally recognized.
Tasting notes
The The Sleeper Shiraz from the Winery Rickety Bridge is a powerful yet elegant red wine, which masterfully captures the intensity and depth of the Shiraz grape.
This wine is made from hand-picked grapes produced, which ripen in the warm and sunny locations of Franschhoek. The The Sleeper Shiraz presents itself in a dark purple color.
Dominate in the nose Aromas of ripe black berries, plums, and a spicy pepper note, accompanied by subtle hints of Vanilla and Oak Wood. The wine reveals itself on the palate. full-bodied and complex, with soft tannins and an excellent balance. Nuances of Chocolate, Tobacco and a touch of smoke add additional depth to the wine. A long, elegant finish makes it a true delight.
Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
