Max & Moritz
What began as a shared passion for exceptional wines has grown into one of Germany’s leading destinations for South African wine. With their wine bars, Max & Moritz combine contemporary hospitality, high-quality cuisine and one of Europe’s largest selections of South African wines.
Each wine bar shares the same goal: to make wine easy-going, accessible and enjoyable. Rather than a traditional wine shop, guests can expect a relaxed atmosphere, personal advice and the opportunity to discover special wines by the glass or bottle—from hidden gems produced by small family wineries to internationally acclaimed premium wines.
With locations in Munich, Max & Moritz create places for foodies, travellers and wine lovers where quality, hospitality and authentic experiences take centre stage. Regular wine tastings, exclusive events and close partnerships with renowned wineries from South Africa make each wine bar a meeting place for anyone who wants to discover wine in a new way.
Today, The WineStore imports wines from more than 50 South African wineries directly to Germany. This close collaboration enables Max & Moritz to offer many wines exclusively and delight their guests with a selection that goes far beyond the classic range.
Whether you’re enjoying a glass of wine after work, a special evening with friends or a guided tasting, the Max & Moritz wine bars stand for genuine hospitality, exceptional wines and the allure of South Africa—in the heart of Munich.

With the BIO-Cuvée "1. Streich by Max & Moritz" from the Winery Johanninger , the name says it all. The refreshing acidity structure, paired with citrus, apple, and pear, makes even a gray autumn evening feel summery.
"Upon opening, the summery scent practically jumps into the nose and invites you to dream."

Müller-Thurgau, Huxelrebe, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling
This white wine blend combines rich fruit and aromatic spice with fresh definition. Müller-Thurgau and Huxelrebe can create a soft, fragrant framework with apple, ripe yellow fruit and delicate Muscat notes ; particularly when more fully ripe, Huxelrebe can also contribute body. Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc often add citrusy freshness and lively acidity , giving the ensemble structure. Herbal to grassy nuances of Sauvignon Blanc complement the fruit with a distinctive spicy edge.
The varieties involved are found, among other places, in Rheinhessen and the Palatinate, without the combination constituting a classic regional blend. Depending on ripeness and aging, the style ranges from light and fresh to round and full-bodied, dry or with residual sweetness. In the glass, pale yellow to golden-yellow hues are possible; tannins generally play little role. It pairs well in general with vegetable dishes, fish or mild cheeses.
