Backsberg Family Wines

The traditional Weingut Backsberg Family Wines was founded in 1916 and is now run by the Back family in the fourth generation. Located in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley, it showcases a unique family legacy in its new tasting room, with a century-old tractor as the centerpiece.

Backsberg is known for its diverse and structured wines. As South Africa’s first certified carbon-neutral Weingut since 2006, it follows a consistent sustainability philosophy. The product range includes certified kosher wines as well as popular grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Visitors can enjoy the freshly renovated facility and sample wines such as the aromatic Pinotage or the lively Sauvignon Blanc The Weingut combines wine, history and the beauty of nature in a truly unique way.
